Louis is a part of the permanent ensemble of Het Zuidelijk Toneel from January 1, 2025. But fortunately, we have been able to enjoy his presence for some more time now.

He recently appeared in the hit play Reigen re-Erected (2022) and as a rebellious party pooper in Crashtest Ibsen (2023).

This season, Louis can be seen in Offline Tourists, Not Quichot, and Byzantium. Last season, he performed in We Are The World, We Are The Brabant, Holly Goosebumps and Reigen re-Erected.

After completing his education in Kleinkunst at the Herman Teirlinck Institute in Antwerp in 2003, Louis van der Waal (1979) immediately entered the theater world. He has performed with Toneelhuis and Abattoir Fermé, among others, translated his own texts (Jachtkamp, Toneelhuis) and established a career in which he moves and unsettles audiences with equal ease. His roles in The Golden Boy (Theater Antigone) and the Crashtest Ibsen series with Sarah Moeremans made one thing clear: he is not afraid to explore, to challenge, and to immerse himself in a character.

Louis starred in Sarah Moeremans' Crashtest Ibsen series, written by Joachim Robbrecht. In addition to touring with Moeremans&Sons and the NNT, the series was performed at the Oerol summer festival for four years.

Aside from performing on stage, Louis makes the occasional appearance in films and TV series, including the VPRO series Lampje, Het Verhaal van Nederland, the feature film Patrick by director Tim Mielants, and various Belgian niche projects such as the miniseries Clinch and Hotel Poseidon by Stef Lernous.

In the past, he has also created his own work: unique location-based performances, podcasts, films, performances, exhibitions and operas with companies such as UNM, Ferdnnd (with Mauro Pawlowski and AMVK), eisbar (with Benny Claessens) and De Vrolijke Brigade (Hajo Doorn). Notable projects include the operas Slopera and Gabber4Life, and art films such as Frankenstein in Friesland (VHDG) and Plan-B (in collaboration with S.M.A.K. Ghent). His visual art has been exhibited in various venues, from the Middelheim Museum and Into The Great Wide Open to Pukkelpop and Kin’Act in Kinshasa.
