Het Zuidelijk Toneel & Sarah Moeremans
Following the success of Mission Molière and Crashtest Ibsen, Het Zuidelijk Toneel presents Reigen re-Erected (aka Rijgen, the Oerol hit of 2022). Inspired by Arthur Schnitzler's Reigen, in which Schnitzler sketches a portrait of sexual morality at the end of the 19th century in ten scenes. In this version, director Sarah Moeremans and writer Joachim Robbrecht humorously highlight the mysterious and vulnerable corners of lust and love in our time.
In a series of scenes, the actors take us into a world of security, suffering lovers, and pleasure seekers. From Tinder dates to long-married couples, from webcam girls to asexuals, from happy singles to open relationships. Taboos and forbidden forms of love are not shunned, and yet what you experience above all is a loving comedy with a deeper meaning.
Arlecchino nomination for Louis van der Waal
Actor Louis van der Waal received an Arlecchino nomination for his role in Rijgen. The jury said: “With a single glance toward the audience, he can make the audience laugh, while at the same time conveying a sense of great sadness.”

Sarah Moeremans has been the artistic director of Het Zuidelijk Toneel since December 2023, but her connection with the company dates back to 2021, when she joined as a permanent director and co-artistic director. Her work is philosophical with a touch of satire, using language as its main building block. Since 2013, she has worked regularly with writer Joachim Robbrecht. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel, she has created, among other things, the audience favorite Shut Up and Play With Me (nominated for the VSCD Mime/Performance Prize), the theater experience What Ever Happened to Mr. Pete? and the absolute Oerol hit Rijgen.
