A mini-operetta full of bossy ladies-in-waiting, dancing wigs, and heated encounters.

After Eins, zwei, Schweinerei, we continue with Drei, vier, flirt mit mir. With great enthusiasm and urgency, we once again turn our attention to a nineteenth-century farce by Johann Nestroy. This time, this comical mini-operetta is not total chaos with bare bottoms, but we go for 100% through-composed music plus beautiful dresses and wigs. Five actors/dancers lure us through the well, the castle garden, and the castle itself, into the arms of true love.

The situation: red-haired Titus Feuerfuchs bumps into Salomé, who also has red hair, at the well, and together they lament the widespread hatred of redheads and the social exclusion that comes with it.

At that very moment, a near-fatal 19th-century carriage crash occurs and Titus rescues the passenger. He turns out to be a marquis. As a thank you, the marquis gives him a black wig to cover his red hair. This marks the start of a rapid climb up the social ladder to become the right-hand man of Countess Von Cypressenburg.

To top it all off, a wealthy great-uncle appears who wants to leave Titus his entire fortune. However, when he is unmasked and revealed to be a redhead, everything threatens to collapse. But in a virtuoso manner, honesty and love prevail and the hatred of redheads disappears. Perhaps a little predictable, but enjoyable, long and happy. And all that in 30 minutes!

Drei, vier, flirt mit mir is a sung comedy based on Der Talismann by Johann Nestroy, the comedy writer who was world-famous in Vienna but is hardly ever performed here. High time for Het Zuidelijk Toneel and the Rotterdam music and performance collective Club Gewalt to get to know each other and collaborate in this musical overkill of deliciousness.

DIRECTION, TRANSLATION, AND ADAPTATION

Sarah Moeremans has been the artistic director of Het Zuidelijk Toneel since December 2023, but her connection with the company dates back to 2021, when she joined as a permanent director and co-artistic director. Her work is philosophical with a touch of satire, using language as its main building block. Since 2013, she has worked regularly with writer Joachim Robbrecht. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel, she has created, among other things, the audience favorite Shut Up and Play With Me (nominated for the VSCD Mime/Performance Prize), the theater experience What Ever Happened to Mr. Pete? and the absolute Oerol hit Rijgen.
