Het Zuidelijk Toneel & Sarah Moeremans - op De Parade

To survive, humor seems to be as essential as air. And with COVID-19, we need to keep exercising our laugh muscles. We do this with a burlesque nineteenth-century farce on speed. Five actors play an entire class of students, their parents, and the teaching staff. Chaos guaranteed.

The situation: the small school on a baron's estate is in danger of being closed down. The pupils are underperforming. An exam, administered by the baron himself, becomes their last chance. Head teacher Wampi goes to dubious lengths to save his ‘sinking ship’. However, the unruly pupils constantly throw a spanner in the works, while assistant teacher Franz is more interested in Wampi's daughter than in maintaining order and discipline in the classroom.

Eins Zwei Schweinerei is a comedy based on Die Schlimmen Buben by Johann Nestroy. Nestroy was once a world-famous comedy writer with more than 80 plays to his name, which are still frequently performed in German-speaking regions. The last performance in the Netherlands dates back to 1962.

DIRECTOR

Sarah Moeremans has been the artistic director of Het Zuidelijk Toneel since December 2023, but her connection with the company dates back to 2021, when she joined as a permanent director and co-artistic director. Her work is philosophical with a touch of satire, using language as its main building block. Since 2013, she has worked regularly with writer Joachim Robbrecht. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel, she has created, among other things, the audience favorite Shut Up and Play With Me (nominated for the VSCD Mime/Performance Prize), the theater experience What Ever Happened to Mr. Pete? and the absolute Oerol hit Rijgen.
