Playing is something everyone can do, but few actually do. Do we still see the possibilities for play? Is suppressing our desire to play a sign of maturity, or is it because there is no money to be made from it? What if we let go of our inhibitions and throw ourselves into a game for its own sake?

Two players gather on the playing field: Joep van der Geest and Louis van der Waal, loaded with everyday objects. Against and with each other, they fall from one game to the next and are fanatically enthusiastic. There will be laughter, death and tears. The logic of the game can only be understood intuitively and is a mystery that you, as the audience, will want to solve.

Shut Up and Play with Me is an ode to the playful human being, for everyone who has ever played, now or long ago. Inspired by Homo Ludens by cultural historian Johan Huizinga.

Director

Sarah Moeremans has been the artistic director of Het Zuidelijk Toneel since December 2023, but her connection with the company dates back to 2021, when she joined as a permanent director and co-artistic director. Her work is philosophical with a touch of satire, using language as its main building block. Since 2013, she has worked regularly with writer Joachim Robbrecht. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel, she has created, among other things, the audience favorite Shut Up and Play With Me (nominated for the VSCD Mime/Performance Prize), the theater experience What Ever Happened to Mr. Pete? and the absolute Oerol hit Rijgen.
