Gillis has been part of the permanent ensemble of the Zuidelijk Toneel since January 1, 2025, but he was no stranger to the company in the years prior to that.

In recent years, he has shone at Het Zuidelijk Toneel under Sarah Moeremans direction, playing a hopeless admirer in Mission Molière and a non-conformist in the critically acclaimed production Crashtest Ibsen (2023).

This season, Gillis can be seen in Offline Tourists, Not Quichot and This Will Not End Well. Last season, he performed in We Are The World, We Are The Brabant and Holly Goosebumps.

Gillis Biesheuvel (1972) graduated from the Arnhem Theater School in 1995 and was part of the Dood Paard theater company as an actor, theater maker, and artistic director from 1998 to 2018. For his role in Reigen ad lib at Dood Paard, he was nominated for the Dutch Theater Award Arlecchino in 2010.

Throughout his career, Gillis has performed in countless productions at home and abroad, crossing paths with director Sarah Moeremans more than once. At Toneelgroep Oostpool, he previously appeared in her productions Robin Hood and De Rattenvanger.

You may also recognize Gillis from television, with roles in Flikken Maastricht, Judas, and Volgens Jacqueline. Or perhaps you've seen him on the silver screen, in films such as Rundfunk: Jachterwachter and Mascotte.
