Following the success of Holly Goosebumps, Ada Ozdogan is back at Het Zuidelijk Toneel, this time creating a play with Gillis Biesheuvel and Keja Klaasje Kwestro. Kwestro recently won the Mary Dresselhuys Prize and the Theo d’Or for Best Leading Role in F*CK LOLITA. In this theatrical thriller, we see two neighbours whose loneliness intersects in a fateful way. Serious stuff, but full of suspense inspired by Alfred Hitchcock’s Rear Window.

Since being fired from her job, Izola spends her days wandering between the window and the kitchen table, seeking relief from the heat on sweltering summer days. Friends cancel plans via voicemail; only the stray dog that comes to drink water can still extract a smile from her. Then her neighbor appears at her window. She’s seeking contact and knows more about Izola than is good for her.

Frame by frame, the story is reconstructed of how something small can unintentionally spiral out of control, in a cinematic portrayal that gets deeper and deeper under your skin.

Text & Direction

Ada Ozdogan graduated from the directing program in Maastricht and works around the themes of identity and ideology. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel, she created the much-praised Holly Goosebumps. This 'epic blockbuster on stage' was immediately embraced by the press and the public.

Ada's work is characterized by a strong visual language that arises from large-scale formal investigations. She is interested in characters who resist societal norms and the gaze and prejudices of others that confine them. In her translation to the stage, she engages with pop culture and our common frames of reference.
