Het Zuidelijk Toneel & Suze Milius
Recognition, everyone craves it. To be seen, to be valued, to matter. But what if that confirmation is lacking? What if your words go unheard, the music of your band doesn't resonate or your talent goes unnoticed? Exactly, jealousy rears its head, uncertainty gnaws away and somewhere deep inside you hear a little voice whispering: will this be okay?
During a special Exposure Night, we watch the noise band Distortion Klub rehearse in line with their credo: anything that makes a noise is an instrument. As their sound fills the room, one of the band members begins to film and interview the rest. In the presence of the camera, their alter egos increasingly come to the fore and the boundary between personality and performance becomes blurred.
In the performance This Will Not End Well, Suze Milius and Annelinde Bruijs do exactly what they do best: turning language into music. Interviews, improvisations and conversations are cut, pasted, repeated and composed into an intriguing musical – and almost museum-like – performance about identity and uncertainty.
Let’s give it up for Distortion Klub!

Director and writer Suze Milius creates colourful, evocative worlds that are at once alienating, poetic and humorous. Through her distinctive visual and physical language, she highlights human behaviour in all its disarming awkwardness. A hallmark of her work is the way the everyday is placed within a surrealistic framework, revealing the details we often overlook in our daily grind.
