Julia has been part of the permanent ensemble of the Zuidelijk Toneel since January 1, 2025. In recent years, she has impressed audiences with her believable portrayal of a vegetarian oyster lover with enviable social skills in Mission Molière and made a big impression in the epic coming-of-age theater production Holly Goosebumps.

For this latest production, she won the Theo D'or for Most Impressive Supporting Role. Or rather, supporting roles! In Holly Goosebumps, Julia managed to juggle no fewer than three roles: the goddess Athena, an oracle with a questionable view of reality, and the destructive Lamastu. She also received high praise last season for her moving performance in the stand-alone show Saved Game. During the 2025-2026 season, Julia also appeared in the productions Not Quichot and Byzantium.

This season, Julia can be seen in I Like Art and Art Likes Me and Vondels Angels.

Julia Ghysels (1991) graduated in dramatic arts from the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp in 2015. During her studies, she performed in De zaak van de dieren tegen de mensen by hetpaleis and Alsemkomt by de Roovers. After graduating, she steadily built a versatile career, with roles in Othello by Toneelhuis, adult world by echo maker MT & Cie Covar, and in various productions by the Ghent-based company Ontroerend Goed, including Loopstation, Fight Night, TM, and Funeral.

In the 2020–2021 season, Julia can be seen in Het eind van het begin van het einde, a large-scale production by hetpaleis in collaboration with Theater Artemis and Het Zuidelijk Toneel, directed by Jetse Batelaan.

On television, Julia has appeared in the Flemish series Gent-West and Fenix, among others.
