A performance should be visible beneath a thick layer of snow. At least, that's what they said at the box office when we bought the tickets. Suddenly, snowflakes swirl upward and something resembling an empty stage floor appears. Is this the beginning? Is this the end? Hello...?
This family show for everyone aged eight and up starts where all the others normally end: actors go home and all the equipment is loaded into the truck. Ready to drive on to the next theater. But what if there are no more theaters left? Het eind van het begin van het einde desperately tries to represent something as a performance. Maybe the very last story can still be saved, or maybe there is even a way back. Who will help?
Enter the world of award-winning director Jetse Batelaan. As original as he is funny, he stretches the boundaries of imagination and deliberately fails to live up to expectations.
Jetse Batelaan (Leiden, 1978) is a director and, since 2013, artistic director of Theater Artemis. He has an eye for people who struggle, and with that eye he creates visual, imaginative, and clear theater that surprises and moves. His approach is radical. In recent years, he has won several nominations and awards, including for the co-productions Het verhaal van het verhaal (The Story of the Story) and Een leuk avondje uit (A Fun Night Out).
