Het Zuidelijk Toneel & Sarah Moeremans
Het Zuidelijk Toneel caused a sensation three times with its musical adaptations of Johan Nestroy's forgotten comedy classics. Now we're going to run away with another musical classic: the Medley! Recognizable melodies filled with love and how that has been sung about in pop music over the last half century. The setting is also classic and classy: a house party around a coffee table that is threatening to burst at the seams.
Four singing performers outdo each other with their knowledge of pop music, quoting well-known and obscure opinions about romantic relationships. Until the mountain of beliefs and arguments piles up so high and becomes so tense that it is bound to collapse.
Good to know: this performance makes brief use of a light stroboscopic effect.
Sarah Moeremans has been the artistic director of Het Zuidelijk Toneel since December 2023, but her connection with the company dates back to 2021, when she joined as a permanent director and co-artistic director. Her work is philosophical with a touch of satire, using language as its main building block. Since 2013, she has worked regularly with writer Joachim Robbrecht. At Het Zuidelijk Toneel, she has created, among other things, the audience favorite Shut Up and Play With Me (nominated for the VSCD Mime/Performance Prize), the theater experience What Ever Happened to Mr. Pete? and the absolute Oerol hit Rijgen.
