I Like Art and Art Likes Me is now touring
In een decor van vilten driehoeken neemt een rij acteurs en artistiek team eindapplaus in ontvangst, waarbij ze wijzen naar het publiek.

Last Saturday, October 31, it was finally there: the premiere of I Like Art and Art Likes Me in a sold-out De Nieuwe Vorst in Tilburg. The latest production by our creator Silke van Kamp (F*CK LOLITA), with Julia Ghysels as Hitler and Louis van der Waal as Joseph Beuys, made a deep impression. We finally got an answer to the question: “What if Hitler and Beuys had met?”. And that answer was, as the audience unanimously expressed, overwhelming. Grand, abundant, impressive.

Art as a battlefield
Hitler was rejected twice by the art academy. Beuys, on the other hand, welcomed everyone into his class. Silke van Kamp brings the two together on a felt hillside landscape, where a crackling clash erupts over the power of art. With humor, courage, and a hefty dose of discomfort.

The idea originated in 2022 during a walking holiday in Scotland with writer Jip Vuik. Together with writer Willem de Wolf, they wrote the text in a writers’ room. What started with the question “What is the power of art?” turned out to be more relevant than expected. Silke: “During the creation process, fascism and nationalism gained so much ground that it ultimately became more about that than I initially suspected.”

What the press says
Theaterkrant immediately declared the performance to be Critic's Choice. Reviewer Moos van den Broek praises the performances of Ghysels and Van der Waal and sees a playful plea for art as a free space that simultaneously looks critically at the art world itself.

"Teetering on the brink - there are some truly stark statements - Van Kamp and co use a healthy dose of humor to lay bare the mechanisms of power within systems thinking, before taking to their heels in a discussion that offers no way out."HAT OFFERS NO WAY OUT.
