Keja Klaasje Kwestro wins Theo d'Or 2026

The theater hit of last season is back for two more performances! Awarded the Theo d’Or for the powerful performance of Keja Klaasje Kwestro and the Toneelschrijfprijs 2026 for the virtuosic text of Annet Bremen. Those who missed the show now have a last chance on Friday, February 12 in SPOT Groningen during the Dutch Theater Festival Groningen and on Sunday, March 7 in Theater Rotterdam during the Dutch Theater Festival Rotterdam.
The Dutch Theater Festival presents the most impressive performances of the past season every year, selected by professional juries. This is no longer just happening in Amsterdam: the festival now travels throughout the Netherlands. F*CK LOLITA is part of the selection in both Rotterdam and Groningen.
Lolita claims her story back
In F*CK LOLITA, director Silke van Kamp radically inverts Nabokov's scandalous novel Lolita from 1955. For decades, Lolita was portrayed as a romanticized object of desire. Now she reclaims her story and body: not as a victim of abuse, but as someone who fights her way free from the grip of the male perspective. This creates a whimsical, meaningful, and complex duet between Lolita (Keja Klaasje Kwestro) and Humbert Humbert (Joep van der Geest).
In the awards
Keja Klaasje Kwestro received the Theo d’Or in 2026 for most impressive acting performance in a leading role for her role in F*CK LOLITA. According to the VSCD Theater Jury, the portrayal of a character rarely made such an impression: “With her originality, courage, and technical virtuosity, and the nuance in her psychological interpretation, Kwestro embodies our screaming need for a unique voice.”
Soon after, she followed it up with the Mary Dresselhuys Prize 2026. According to the jury, Keja has grown over the past ten years into “a fearless and unconventional theater personality.” The jury report mentions F*CK LOLITA as significant and unforgettable.
And Annet Bremen also won an award, with the Toneelschrijfprijs 2026. The jury praised how she sharply and originally brings Nabokov's classic into the present: “With fire, with the virtuosity of a linguistic acrobat, and with craftsmanship embedded in rigorous research, Annet Bremen claims a very current issue and rewrites it.”
