How does a young woman discover her sexuality? And who is allowed to tell that story? Director Silke van Kamp is fascinated by Nabokov’s scandalous 1955 novel Lolita, in which a young woman is deprived of her journey of discovery into sexual fantasies and desires.

For decades, Lolita has been portrayed as a romanticised sex object, and countless versions of her story have appeared. Seventy years on, Silke turns Nabokov’s literary classic radically inside out and, in F*CK LOLITA, reshapes the story from a female perspective. Lolita steps out of the cage of the sex object and reclaims her story and her body. Not as a victim of abuse, but as someone who fights her way free from the grip of the male perspective.

Thus, in F*CK LOLITA, a whimsical, sensual and complex duet unfolds between Lolita (Keja Klaasje Kwestro) and Humbert Humbert (Joep van der Geest). Lolita reclaims her work of art: about herself, as herself.

In 2026, Keja Klaasje Kwestro received the Theo d’Or for her leading role in F*CK LOLITA. According to the VSCD Theatre Jury, rarely has a character portrayal made such an impression. “With her originality, courage and technical virtuosity, and the nuance in her psychological interpretation, Kwestro embodies our desperate need for a voice of our own.”

Annet Bremen won the 2026 Theatre Writing Prize for F*CK LOLITA. The jury praised the way she brings Nabokov’s classic into the present day with sharpness and originality: “With passion, the virtuosity of a linguistic acrobat and craftsmanship rooted in thorough research, Annet Bremen takes on a highly topical issue and rewrites it.”
