How does a young woman discover her sexuality? And who is allowed to talk about it? Director Silke van Kamp is fascinated by Nabokov's scandalous 1955 novel Lolita, in which a young woman is deprived of her journey of discovery into sexual fantasies and desires.

For decades, Lolita has been portrayed as a romanticized sex object, and countless versions of her story have been published. After 70 years, Silke Nabokov radically turns her literary classic inside out and reshapes the story from a female perspective in F*CK LOLITA. Lolita steps out of the cage of being a sex object and reclaims her story and her body. Not as a victim of abuse, but as someone who fights her way out of the grip of the male perspective.

With text by Annet Bremen (nominated for the 2023 Theater Writing Award), F*CK LOLITA creates a whimsical, meaningful, and complex duet between Lolita and Humbert Humbert. Lolita reclaims her work of art: about herself, as herself.

In 2026, Keja Klaasje Kwestro received the Theo d’Or for her leading role in F*CK LOLITA. Rarely has a character portrayal made such an impression, according to the VSCD Theater Jury. “With her originality, courage, and technical virtuosity and the nuance in her psychological interpretation, Kwestro embodies our desperate need for a voice of our own.”

Silke van Kamp is a theater and film director. In 2019, she was nominated for the BNG Bank Theater Award for her graduation performance Chimo Zei Lila. Her work is characterized by its complexity, raw edge, humor, and affinity with the visual arts. She likes to seek inspiration in the dark corners of society where we hide what is difficult or threatening.
