Suze Milius (Maastricht, 1986) graduated from the directing program at the Maastricht Theater Academy in 2012. Together with Stefan Jakiela & collective Urland, she won the Best of ITS award 2012 (Amsterdam) for the performance TICKLEMEPINK. In 2013, she founded Vzw House Crying Yellow Tears with Stefan Jakiela.
Since then, Suze has been active as a director in both Flemish and Dutch theater. She has worked as a final director with young, exciting companies such as BOG., Circus Treurdier, Wunderbaum, and Orkater. Her expressiveness is based on her talent for placing the banal and everyday in an alienating context. In doing so, she reveals what we do not notice in our daily routine. She does this with everyday characters. In recent years, she has created striking theater productions of her own, such as EXHIBIT, HUIS, and TALK SHOW. In 2018, Suze won the Erik Vos Prize for up-and-coming directors.
Suze's strength lies in merging different forms and disciplines within the performing arts. Her distinctive theater style is evident in both her own productions and in projects for which she is the final director. With her clear structures and sharp choices, Suze creates frameworks within which chaos, absurdity, and unusual hybrid forms of disciplines are given space. Through her unique perspective and approach, she succeeds in empowering performers, both individually and collectively.
