Creating futureproof theater flows through our DNA, and we’ve been doing it for a while. Through the European Theatre Convention (ETC) we work, among other things, according to the guidelines of the Theatre Green Book (TGB). The principles from there are our compass towards greener production. 

We also expect everyone who joins us (from creators, performers, and designers to our partners in production, transport, cleaning, and staff in marketing and administration) to work in the most eco-friendly way possible and think along about how we can achieve maximum artistic effect with minimal negative ecological impact.

Importantly, sustainability for us is not just about less. Less material, less waste, less impact. It is also about what emerges from that: new ideas, different ways of producing, and space for artistic renewal. We want to continuously explore how it can work. Not sustainability alongside the artistic process, but sustainability within the artistic process. That is how we create futureproof theater.

Managing director Rick Spaan says about this: "By clearly incorporating sustainability challenges throughout the entire organization, greener production becomes a logical consequence and an irreversible part of the artistic and business process and thus not a task or something to dread, but rather a challenging and creative process."

The winner of the NAPK Sustainability Award will be announced on November 9, 2026, at the Stadsschouwburg Utrecht.
